Three plaintiffs filed the second lawsuit on November 27th!

2019年11月29日

On November 27th, three plaintiffs including fishermen and divers in Yokosuka filed an additional complaint as plaintiffs. They will be involved with future trials henceforth.

There are fishing activities going on both on the west and east coasts of the Miura peninsula in Yokosuka. In recent years, however, the areas have been facing a significant reduction in seaweeds and seaweed beds, a phenomenon called “Rocky-shore denudation (Isoyake)”. Climate change is having a major impact on the fishing industry by keeping the water temperature not low enough for the seaweeds to grow in the winter.

Under these circumstances, there were offers to participate as plaintiffs in the case, as the new construction of coal-fired power plant would cause further damage on the area.
